Danny, you model Christ through your life, through the way you give of yourself and your thanks; sadly even through your suffering. Your faith in God is strong and I know he watches over you; it is a blessing to be related to you. I keep you in my prayers. Prima Cece

Thankyou for such an uplifting message and reminder of the importance of praying for others' spiritual progress.
Question- have you ever thought about putting the E- Free Music as part of this as well??
Thanks again!

Thanks for the grace words about taking the long view and helping with small amounts over time, which add up to alot. That perspective seems more sustainable than the super hero mindset. :)

Appreciated the follow-up discussion. It was a bit interesting that I actually tuned in expecting to hear comments on how the Thanksgiving celebration went. I was planning on attending last evening and even had a short "thanks" to share if the service allowed for such comments. My circumstance changed at 5:30 and I had to shift priorities which turned out to be one of those "God Moments". So here I am listening instead to thoughts on Indiscriminate Love, one day before meeting with an individual who has been pushing my buttons for about 13 weeks. Yikes, did you have to discuss, "Our natural response is retaliate" or "My rights & entitlements sometimes get in the way" and "I'll belittle you because you have belittled me"????

Actually, I'm most grateful that you did. I'm better prepared for tomorrow. Time to be humble.
Thanks, Morris

Tammy, thanks for your questions. Anger is appropriate at times. The hard part seems to be discerning where that line of appropriateness lies. Right now Amy and I are leading a class titled Red Card that teaches on children at risk around the world. Often when learning about what these children have to experience I get angry. That seems like a righteous anger that is leading us to steps of action on behalf of these children, in Christ's name.

I have found that anger resulting from something done to me or against me usually is not righteous anger. That is not necessarily a rule of thumb as much as it is my experience. Maybe some of the other pastors will weigh in.

Your conversation clarified a lot of questions I had --- Isn't anger appropriate sometimes? Can Christians be angry and admit it?
Thank you for addressing those topics.

Chris,

Thanks for all you do to support this effort. I was encouraged to see Stewardship listed. I have some tools that I would like to talk to you about that I am hoping will be useful to the church as simple and basic stewardship resources. I am also hoping to get Brian to do "a 30 minute taeching"
that we could add as a podcast to this section in the fall. Thanks again! Mitchell

Hi Faith Cafe' Leaders,
Thankyou so much for this amazing place to contemplate God's word. I found your discussion very helpful. This past year, I dealt with an angry parent ( I am teaching now) and I know that I did not handle it well. Your discussion will remind me of ways to deal with matters God's way.
Thankyou again. May God continue to bless E-Free!

Thanks, friends! It takes practice being vulnerable with others, and I have found a community at Faith that allows me to go there.

Would you pray for me about a persistent sin which is rooted in negative thinking towards someone? I would appreciate it!

...your comments about needing relationships to mirror God's heart toward broken people was significant. Without the healthy relationships, it is difficult to experience what safety feels like.

Also, your closing remarks were a good reminder about how a healthy Christian experiences weakness and sin, but is able to bring these into the open ---honestly and humbly. It is tempting to assume that real Christians should have it all together. : )

When Steve focused in on Time Management in the sermon I felt a strong pulling on my heart. I have always had big dreams for the kingdom but I often spend my time in ways that don't show it (compulsively reading the news, researching pointless things, etc.) . I am going to start seeking wisdom for how I can use, increasingly, more and more of my day for those dreams that God has placed on my heart.

Tammy, good to know you are on board. I tend to be a kinetic spiritual person myself, that is, when I am not being a couch potato.

Steve, I would like to point out that I was not the flat one (I didn't participate in those shenanigans...). As far as the music goes it definitely felt different than a normal Sunday morning at Faith. I have had the chance to hear Micah on one other occasion when he was playing with more of our worship team members and it was great, similar to what we often experience on Sunday mornings. I did enjoy Sunday as well, though.

*edited for clarity.

Nice sports center tune at the end. Someone was a little flat! You all bailed on making comments on the music. Understandable conduct I guess. Personally, for the first 15 seconds I thought it was too much like rock. After the first 15 seconds I really got jolted (in a positive way) by the music and had a hard time keeping my composure, or singing along. So, I thought it was awesome.

Yes... you do have listeners! I enjoy listening to your comments. It helps move the sermon from in my head to my life. Kinetic spirituality---I think that is what Steve named it -- is something I experience. You aren't alone, Russ! It is especially great paired with service to others! : )

..."Does anyone listen to these podcasts?" YES, I did for the first time today. Great job guys. I've been missing a lot by not listening to these. They're downloaded on my iPod, just have never yet listened to one. I plan to bring it to the attention of my small group and add it to our discussion of the sermon. Well, off to listen to more of you while I sit at the computer downloading audio books for our trip. Thanks for being willing to be so transparent sharing your thoughts on the sermon. You are just the greatest church pastors I've ever known!!

Thanks for the comments, Frank. One thing I love about the Gospels is how honest and "true to life" the disciples are depicted. No idealized/sanitized version of following Christ.

Great thoughts about the man who hung next to Christ. On Good Friday I'll do a short meditation in preparation for the Lord's Table. We'll basically read the "last seven words of Christ" - the seven statements Christ made while on the cross. "Today you will be with Me in paradise" is one of those seven "words." I'll email you a copy of my comments.

This is the first time I listened to a cafe on line. This week's sermon and the cafe discussion made me eager to hear the rest of the familiar story. Are you giving a message at the Good Friday service? If so, are you going to e-mail it out?

A minor yet fascinating character is the man in Luke 23 who had the honor of dying a saved believer beside Christ himself: the man who hung on the cross next to Jesus. We don't know much about the man. All we know is that he defended him publically, asked for forgiveness, and was told by Christ himself, "Today, you shall be with me in paradise." That's it…he's eternally saved as a full heir in the Kingdom of Heaven. He was but a few breaths away from hell, instead this unnamed man was the last recorded new Christian during Christ's earthly life.

Steve's comment from last week that God is a person not a principle has really helped me come to terms with my tendency to look for the right prayer equation.

I have been thinking about unanswered prayer lately and it seems to be an inevitable thing. Either God answers all of prayers, we don't ask or there are unanswered prayers. I think I tend to be someone who doesn't ask or trust God for nearly as much as I should.

Any other thoughts and/or experiences from this weeks teaching?

This was such a significant sermon. I could not keep the tears from rolling down my cheek when Steve said that it is from receiving Gods love that truly allows us to love others. I have tried so hard in the past to do all the things I believed were "christian", it was only when I began to believe God's love for me was I able to experience any of His character in me. It is changing my life, this love thing. Thanks.

Kim, you raise a very good point. In the sermon and in our Faith Cafe discussion, it was from the vantage point of people who would be ready to receive our interest in their spiritual well-being, but as you say, sometimes we will have an interest in another person's spiritual well-being, but they aren't there. They aren't interested in pursuing God. So, what to do? I believe that any interest in pursuing God starts with a work of God in a person's spirit. So, therefore, we can't make them interested. What we can do is pray for them, love on them and live a certain way before them, trusting that at some point God will touch their lives and create a yearning for God in their heart. And when the discouragement comes, maybe this is a time when we need to lean into the body of Christ and let others enter into the situation with us - to encourage us (to keep on) and to pray with us.

In response to the Faith Cafe of the week, I realize anew that there are people in my life that I have been passionate about their spiritual life for decades…. and not seen fruitfulness. I admit to discouragement and wonder what’s going on??? Sometimes I even forget to pray for them now since it’s been SO long!! I’d appreciate comments on this!

I'm glad the podcasts help you ponder the Scripture throughout the week.

I really appreciate these new pod casts. It is a way for me to be reminded of the sermon and is another way to actually dwell on scripture during the week.

By the way, I thought you did a great job with the message Steve. I think that is the most emotion I have seen from you in any sermon.

Steve would have to be the professional on any kind of "Dancing with the Pastors" because he is the only one who has had any actual dance instruction. I hear Russ might be able to bust a move though.

I appreciate Chris's transparency and honesty about getting "flagged". The questions were good, I felt like this would very much be a discussion I would have had after the sermon. Chris asked a few things that I was pondering about. Thanks. The video clip just may keep me awake tonight, mind bending and awesome is God.

I agree with Bill, it does beat Rush. But in order to beat Beck I think this podcast will need to interview some high profile political folk, media or entertainers. What if Steve and Brian hosted "Dancing with the Pastors"? But that would require a video feed...

I like the podcast thing...I can't even believe I am saying it ...I am so cool and techy too. How about "The View" "This is What I think if you down like it don't down load me" This one sounds cool "Total Down Load". Enough joking, I like this I can list to this while I am at work at my computer and it sure beat Rush or the Hog Report.

Thanks Guys,
