Courage in the Midst of Doubt

Due to a technical glitch this week’s sermon was not recorded. We will do our best to get things up and running again by Sunday. You can still download the sermon text below.

Humility Toward Jesus

how should you relate to the Jesus of the New Testament – Someone who not only taught with authority but who was also born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life, who healed people (like lepers and people who’d never walked), who performed other miracles (like feeding 5,000 people with a small amount of food), who died on the cross to pay for our sins, AND who rose bodily from the dead after three days? How do you relate to someone like that? How do you relate to the Son of God?

Assignments from God

Today, we are going to begin by looking at John’s assignment from God, which we find in Luke 1:5-17. We are going to look at his assignment and then think about how it is similar and different from the assignments that God gives to us.

Thanksgiving: Responding to the Goodness of God

Today we are going to look at a very simple account in the gospel of Luke that illustrates two basic responses to the goodness of God. As we go through this passage, ask God to reveal to you which response normally characterizes you. “God, is it the habit of our hearts to notice your goodness all around us and respond with thanksgiving? Or do we take your goodness for granted?” Please turn with me to Luke 17:11-19.

God’s Generosity, Our Generosity

We will look briefly at the generosity of the people in giving to the temple (as we’ve just been told about your generosity in this Making Room effort). Then we’ll adopt David’s prayer as our own. After each of the three stanzas we’ll pause and express to God the same things that David expressed to God.

Educating the Heart

Today we are going to think about how we can become the type of people who would pray what David prayed and want what David wanted.

How Do We Stop Worrying?

Do you worry? Do you find it hard to stop?

How do we stop when there are so many things to worry about? Terror and instability in the world. Financial uncertainties. A health concern. Aging parents. Our kid’s well- being. I could go on and on, but the reality is that there is no end to the things about which we can worry. And so how do we stop? How do we deal with fear?

A Zealous Church

We’ve been talking about making room in our facilities and in our lives for people far from God, for children and youth, for worship and prayer. Instead of maintaining the status quo and being complacent, we believe God is calling us to be zealous for these things that are close to His heart.
